Professor Daniel Dessau is a faculty member in the Department of Physics at the University of Colorado Boulder and an Adjunct Fellow at JILA. His research focuses on electronic structure and novel quantum materials, including high-temperature superconductors, topological insulators, and magnetoresistive oxides. He employs advanced spectroscopic techniques like angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) to study materials at the electronic level.
Key research areas include understanding the electronic correlations in unconventional superconductors, exploring topological phases in materials like MnBi_2Te_4 and TaAs, and investigating the interplay between magnetism and topology. His work bridges experimental physics with theoretical modeling, often collaborating across institutions to advance material characterization and quantum material discovery.
Publications span studies on flat band systems, phase transitions in superconductors, and electronic properties of layered materials. His contributions have advanced our understanding of quantum materials' fundamental properties and their potential applications in next-generation electronics and quantum technologies.
