Daniel Curtis-Cummins is a Lecturer Faculty and Director of the Experimental College at San Francisco State University (SFSU). His teaching philosophy emphasizes student agency, interactive learning, and equity-focused pedagogy. He designs courses where students collaboratively choose topics relevant to their identities and communities, using a contract grading system to reduce stress and encourage growth. A key feature of his instruction is empowering first-year students to transfer critical literacy skills beyond the classroom.
As Director of the Experimental College, he oversees a unique program enabling students to design and teach their own 1-unit courses, fostering peer-to-peer knowledge creation. His approach prioritizes marginalized student voices and community engagement, integrating SF’s urban context into coursework. He holds office hours in HUM 227 and can be reached at dcc123@sfsu.edu.
