Daniel Carvalho is a Lecturer at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC Minas) and head of a conservation genetics laboratory. He earned his PhD at Universidade de Minas Gerais (Brazil) with research on Neotropical fish conservation genetics, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the same institution in 2011. His work bridges molecular genetics and aquatic ecosystem preservation.
Research Interests
- Molecular marker development for aquatic species
- Population genetics of migratory and endangered fish
- DNA barcoding for species identification
- Impact assessment of hydroelectric dams on fish populations
- Invasive species genetics
- Genetic resource management in aquaculture
Publication Trends (15 most recent): Focus on conservation genetics of Neotropical freshwater fish, microsatellite marker development, DNA barcoding applications, and population structure analysis. His work highlights the use of molecular tools in aquatic biodiversity conservation and fisheries management, with a strong emphasis on Brazilian ecosystems like the São Francisco River Basin.
Laboratory: He is establishing his own lab at PUC Minas dedicated to conservation genetics research, particularly for threatened aquatic species.
