Daniel Carruth is the Associate Director for Advanced Vehicle Systems at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) and an Associate Research Professor at Mississippi State University.
- Education: B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering (2001), Ph.D. in Psychology (2008) from Mississippi State University
- Research Leadership: Co-chair of NATO AVT-408 Task Group, founder of SAMS AGV Summit, and lead for ASAM standards on off-road autonomous vehicle simulation
- Labs: Oversees CAVS DRIVE Lab, Collaborative Lab, and Electronics & Sensors Lab
- Funding: Secured over $25 million from agencies like DoD, USDA, NIJ, and BJA
His research focuses on:
- Modeling and simulation of autonomous military ground vehicles in off-road environments
- Human interaction with autonomous systems, including cognitive and physical performance analysis
- Development of virtual environments and test standards for autonomous vehicle validation
- Applications of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) in law enforcement and military contexts
Recent publications emphasize LIDAR performance in adverse conditions, neural network training with simulated sensor data, and simulation fidelity requirements for autonomous systems.
Roles & Affiliations: Active in NATO panels, ASAM standards development, and interdisciplinary projects at CAVS.
