Daniel Campbell-Meiklejohn is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of Sussex, where he directs the Social Motivation Lab. He collaborates with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, Sussex Neuroscience, and Sussex Centre for Research on Kindness. Previously affiliated with institutions including Oxford, UCL, Cambridge, NYU, and Aarhus, he has received major funding from the University of British Columbia, Medical Research Council, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, and Lundbeck Foundation.

His research focuses on social motivations and their neural foundations, investigating: emotional responses to social environments (avoidance, empathy, compassion), mechanisms of emotion regulation, and social influence on decision-making. Additional work explores the pharmacology of interoception and its clinical applications for anxiety disorders. Recent publications examine serotonin's role in interoception, neural substrates of social reward processing, and decision-making in schizophrenia.
Selected scientific awards include the Lloyds of London Science of Risk Prize (Behavioural category) and an MRC/Max Perutz prize commendation for science communication. Public engagement highlights: BBC One and BBC Radio 4 appearances.
Teaching: MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience course convenor, developer of the Social and Emotional Brain and Social Neuroscience modules. Supervision includes PhD students Carmen McClean-Daoust and Dr Georgios Tertikas, with notable graduates: Dr James Livermore, Dr Jo Cutler, Dr Jolyon Miles-Wilson, Dr Lina Skora, and Dr Arndis Simonsen.
