Dr. Daniel Caetano is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Towson University. His research focuses on evolutionary biology, particularly the development and evaluation of phylogenetic comparative methods to understand macro-evolutionary patterns and processes. He holds a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology from the University of Idaho, an M.S. in Ecology, and a B.S. in Biology from Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil).
- Ph.D., Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, University of Idaho
- M.S., Ecology, Universidade de São Paulo
- B.S., Biology, Universidade de São Paulo
His work emphasizes statistical modeling of trait evolution and diversification using phylogenetic trees, with applications to diverse taxa including plants, vertebrates, insects, and arachnids. Key contributions include advancements in hidden state models, budding speciation analysis, and biogeographical reconstructions. He has developed R packages such as ratematrix and hisse to facilitate evolutionary analyses.
