Daniel C.S. Wilson

Daniel C.S. Wilson is a historian of science and technology affiliated with Cambridge Digital Humanities at the University of Cambridge and holds a Turing Research Fellowship at the Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national center for data science and AI. His work bridges traditional archival research with computational methods, focusing on industrialization, data politics, and machine provenance across the 19th–21st centuries.

Wilson’s research integrates close-reading, archival study, and computational techniques such as language models and computer vision. He has contributed to studies in British history, technology history, and the Computational Humanities, often leveraging large datasets like those from the British Library.

Notable projects include his prior role as Senior Research Associate on the ‘Living with Machines’ collaboration, which united historians, data scientists, and curators to analyze industrialization, and his current work with Cambridge University Library on Humphrey Jennings’s Pandaemonium.
