Prof Daniel Beunza is the Professor of Social Studies of Finance at Bayes Business School, City St George's, University of London. His research focuses on how social relations and technology shape financial value, with a particular emphasis on Wall Street trading rooms and the ethical implications of financial models. He holds a PhD from New York University and has taught at Columbia University, London School of Economics, and Copenhagen Business School.
Key qualifications include a PhD in Sociology from NYU (2003). His academic roles span Associate Professor at Copenhagen Business School (2017-2018), Assistant Professor at LSE (2009-2018), and Assistant Professor at Columbia Business School (2006-2009). He chairs the Academic Network of the Principles of Responsible Investment and collaborates with the UK Banking Standards Board on ethical financial practices.
His research interests include organizational theory, finance, and the sociology of financial markets. Notable works include the award-winning book Taking the Floor (2020), which explores moral consequences of financial models and won the 2020 George Terry Award and EGOS Best Book Award. His work bridges ethnography, institutional theory, and cognitive science to analyze financial markets' social and technological dimensions.
