Dr. Daniel Beliavsky is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Fine Arts and Music at Yeshiva University. He is an accomplished concert pianist, music theorist, composer, and filmmaker. His work bridges academic teaching, performance, and documentary filmmaking.
Education: PhD in Music, New York University (2006); BA in Music, Columbia University (2000). He has held visiting professorships at institutions including The City College of New York, NYU, and Mannes College.
Research interests include music history, performance pedagogy, and the intersection of music with film and cultural studies. His projects include documentaries such as *Sonata (1957)* about composer Donald Harris and a forthcoming film on Pulitzer Prize winner David Del Tredici. These films explore the social and cultural impact of 20th-century composers.
He has released three CD recordings of classical piano works, including a world-premiere collection of Lukas Foss’s compositions. His courses at Yeshiva University span music theory, performance, aesthetics, and historical studies, reflecting his interdisciplinary expertise.
