Daniel Agardh is a Senior Lecturer and Adjunct Professor at Lund University, affiliated with the Celiac Disease and Diabetes Unit, EXODIAB: Excellence of Diabetes Research in Sweden, and EpiHealth: Epidemiology for Health. He holds roles as a Research Team Manager and Principal Investigator, focusing on autoimmune diseases such as celiac disease and type 1 diabetes. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
His research explores genetic and environmental factors influencing autoimmune diseases, with a focus on the TEDDY study, which investigates triggers of type 1 diabetes and celiac disease in children. Key projects include the TRIAD Study (screening for diabetes and autoimmune thyroid disease) and GRAIN study (gluten intake and celiac risk). He leads initiatives like the PreCiSE project to prevent celiac disease in Skåne.
Agardh’s research interests span celiac disease pathogenesis, genetic susceptibility, dietary interventions, and epidemiological studies. His recent articles highlight dietary fiber’s protective role against celiac disease, gene-environment interactions in autoimmunity, and TEDDY study insights. He collaborates internationally, with studies published in journals like Diabetes Care, Gastroenterology, and Nature Reviews Endocrinology.
He has secured grants from institutions like the Swedish Research Council and manages multiple active projects. His work emphasizes translational research, aiming to improve early detection and prevention strategies for autoimmune conditions.
