Danica Mitrović is an Assistant Professor at Singidunum University, Belgrade. Previously, she held roles including Scientific Associate and Associate Researcher at the Innovation Center of the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Belgrade (2012–2024). Her research focuses on organic geochemistry, environmental chemistry, and biomarker analysis with emphasis on coal/lignite studies, paleoecology, and marine biogeochemistry. She completed her PhD in chemistry from the University of Belgrade (2011–2018), followed by postdoctoral research (2020–2023) at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Marine Research (NIOZ) in the 'Geolipidome' project.
Education includes a BSc (Environmental Chemist, 2006–2010), MSc (Chemistry, 2010–2011), and PhD (Chemistry, 2011–2018) from the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Belgrade. She conducted international research stays at institutions in Austria, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands, including OeAD-funded studies at Montanuniversität Leoben (2013–2014).
Research interests span lignite basin studies, biomarker identification, stable isotope analysis, and climate science dissemination. She contributed to projects like 'Improving Lignite Utilization' (Austria) and 'Terrestrial Ecosystem Responses' (Sweden). Active in professional networks, she joined the European Geochemistry Association (2021) and participated in initiatives like Scientists4Future@NIOZ and the IDEA concept (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access) at NIOZ.
Key publications include studies on peatland paleoenvironments, lacustrine bacteriohopanepolyols, and coal lithotype characterization. Her work bridges organic geochemistry with applied resource management and climate science communication.
