Dani Nedal is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, jointly appointed in the Department of Political Science and the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. His research focuses on global security, international order, urban geography, and nuclear strategy. He holds a PhD from Georgetown University (2018) and has taught at institutions such as Carnegie Mellon University and the U.S. Army War College.
His current research explores the interplay between urban geography and interstate conflict, culminating in a forthcoming book titled Urban Warfare and Urban Peace. Nedal has held prestigious fellowships at MIT’s Security Studies Program, Yale University, and the University of Birmingham. His work bridges academic rigor with policy relevance, appearing in journals like Journal of Conflict Resolution and International Studies Quarterly.
Key awards include the 2019 Wimmer Faculty Fellowship for innovative teaching and fellowships from the Stanton Foundation and Smith Richardson Foundation. His teaching includes courses like GLA1003H - Global Security, emphasizing critical analysis of contemporary security challenges.
Nedal’s career spans academic and applied research, with collaborations at Aberystwyth University, the Getulio Vargas Foundation, and the China-Brazil Business Council. His interdisciplinary approach addresses structural drivers of conflict, foreign policy dynamics, and representation in international studies.
