Dana Collins is Professor of Sociology at California State University, Fullerton, with research spanning transnational urban studies, sexualities, and feminist political ecology. She holds a PhD from University of California, Santa Barbara and BA from Bowling Green State University.
Her scholarly work examines:
- Transnational sexual communities and urban space
- Queer theory and human rights frameworks
- Feminist political ecology and food justice
- Decolonial feminist methodologies
- Social movement activism
Publications include the ethnographic book 'The Rise and Fall of an Urban Sexual Community: Malate (dis)Placed' analyzing transformation in Manila's gay district. Recent research investigates Filipino food cultures in Los Angeles, developing critical frameworks for understanding food justice through diasporic experiences.
Teaching emphasizes critical sociology and global citizenship, encouraging students to engage diverse perspectives on social justice issues. Current courses include 'The Social Life of Food' which examines food systems through political and cultural lenses.
She previously co-edited 'New Directions in Feminism and Human Rights', contributing to transnational feminist theory development.
