Dan Wolf Meyrowitsch serves as an Associate Professor and Epidemiologist at the Department of Public Health within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), Denmark. He has held the position of Head of Research for the Global Health Section since 2004. Previously, he worked as an Assistant Professor at UCPH (2001-2004) and completed his PhD at the same institution in 1995. His extensive professional experience includes consulting for major international organizations including the World Bank, WHO/TDR, Danida (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark), US-AID, and Wellcome Trust/Oxford University.
Professor Meyrowitsch's research spans infectious and chronic disease epidemiology, health systems, implementation research, complex interventions, maternal and newborn child health, and social media applications in health. His specific interests include maternal health, child mortality, type-2 diabetes, mental health, drug administration, reproductive health, exposure to gender violence during pregnancy, and living with non-communicable chronic diseases. He has pioneered approaches to studying epidemiological transition and analyzing fake health science content on social media platforms.
His current research portfolio includes three major projects funded by Danida: Enabling best possible childbirth care in Tanzania (as Principal Investigator), Living with diabetes in Vietnam (as Work Package 2 Responsible), and Access to Health Services for Key Populations in Tanzania (Heading Danish research group). He also participates in the CONTINUITY project funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation focusing on chronic disease care for displaced persons.
As an educator, Professor Meyrowitsch coordinates the Strategies of health promotion and disease prevention course in the MSc Global Health program and teaches demographic methods, epidemiological transition, and mass-drug administration. He has contributed to Coursera MOOCs on global health topics and developed innovative online roleplays to analyze health promotion on social media.
With over 100 peer-reviewed publications (h-index: 34; i10 index: 71), Professor Meyrowitsch appears as first or last author in approximately half of his works. His research on declining malaria vector populations in Tanzania received significant international media coverage including BBC and other major outlets. He serves on multiple PhD assessment committees and has mentored numerous students in epidemiology and global health.
