Dan Qiu is a Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, affiliated with the Polimanti Lab. His work focuses on understanding complex interactions between psychopathology, chronic physical conditions, and social determinants of health, particularly in Chinese populations. Research interests include epidemiology of mental health comorbidities, genetic risk factors for psychiatric disorders, and implementation of public health interventions targeting vulnerable populations.
Key research areas involve:
- Mental health disparities in China
- Genetic influences on depression and schizophrenia
- Workplace health behaviors and chronic disease prevention
- Stigma and caregiver burden in severe mental illness
His 2025 studies explore optimism's moderating role in inflammatory risk pathways and pleiotropy mechanisms in psychopathology-spinal disorder comorbidity. Recent work highlights the need for culturally sensitive mental health policies and integrated care models for chronic disease management.
Current projects include:
- Lifecourse epidemiology of mental-physical comorbidities
- Genetic epidemiology of psychiatric comorbidity
- Health systems research in low-resource settings
Dr. Qiu collaborates internationally on studies of global mental health equity and has contributed to policy recommendations for improving access to mental health services in China.
