Dan Meiron is the Fletcher Jones Professor of Aeronautics and Applied and Computational Mathematics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He has held various academic roles at Caltech since 1981, including Executive Officer for Applied Mathematics and Associate Provost for Information Technology. His research focuses on computational fluid dynamics, shock-driven flow instabilities, turbulence, and adaptive numerical methods for high-performance computing.
Meiron earned his S.B. (1976) and Sc.D. (1981) from MIT. His career includes roles as a Research Fellow, Visiting Associate, and faculty member at Caltech. He has contributed to courses like Ae/ACM/ME 232 (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and ACM 95/100 (Applied Mathematics). His work spans fluid mechanics, solid mechanics under shock loading, and turbulence modeling.
Key research areas include Richtmyer-Meshkov instability, shock-turbulence interactions, and numerical methods for high-strain-rate flows. Awards include the Excellence in Teaching Award. He has led research teams at GALCIT (Graduate Aerospace Laboratories) and contributed to interdisciplinary projects in computational mechanics and aerospace engineering.
