Dan Lu is an Associate Professor in the Renewable Energy Engineering department at Alfred University's Inamori School of Engineering. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (2017) and has 4 years of industry experience as an Electrical Engineer alongside 11 years in power system research.
- Education: PhD, MS, and BS in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and North China Electric Power University
His research focuses on applying statistical and machine learning techniques to power systems analysis, emphasizing electrical load forecasting, robust Security-Constrained Unit Commitment (SCUC), optimal power flow analysis, and renewable energy integration. He also specializes in control theory applications and optimization algorithms for secure/economical power system operations.
Prof. Lu teaches undergraduate courses including Explorations in Renewable Energy Engineering, Signals and Systems, Control Systems, and Solar Energy Systems. His work addresses critical challenges in power system security, day-ahead market forecasting, and energy storage transportation solutions using train-based battery systems.
