Dan Laudal is a Research Professor and Executive Director of the UND College of Engineering & Mines Research Institute, leading the research enterprise while maintaining dual academic affiliations in the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Energy & Petroleum Engineering. With nearly 20 years of combined industry and research experience, his expertise spans carbon capture/utilization/storage (CCUS), critical minerals processing, advanced energy systems, and technology commercialization.

- Leadership Roles: Interim Chair (Energy & Petroleum Engineering, 2025-present), Director of Center for Process Engineering Research (2021-2025)
His work bridges fundamental research and commercialization through interdisciplinary collaboration, focusing on North Dakota's energy economy. Previously, he managed a world-scale CCUS project at a coal plant and held industry roles at Schlumberger and Minnkota Power Cooperative.
Research Affiliation: As Executive Director of UND's Center for Process Engineering Research (CPER), he drives innovation in process engineering, supports startups through technology transfer, and engages in policy development. CPER's mission emphasizes facility development, competitive research funding, and workforce education.
