Dan Kubis is a Teaching Professor in the Department of English at the University of Pittsburgh, affiliated with the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD in English from Pitt (2013), with a dissertation titled “Fighting for a Common Culture: Literary Theory in the Age of Reagan,” examining US literary criticism and politics from the 1980s to 1990s.
Affiliations & Roles:
- Associate Director of Pitt’s Humanities Center (2016–2020), expanding public programming, launching the Being Human podcast, and establishing the Public Humanities Fellows program.
- Former writer in the Office of the Provost (2013–2016).
- Teaches courses such as Literary Field Studies, Introduction to Literature, and History and Politics of the English Language.
Research & Outreach: Focuses on public humanities, literary culture, and pedagogy. Regularly contributes book reviews and essays to outlets like the Boston Globe, Brooklyn Rail, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
