Dan Feldman is a Professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Molecular & Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, where he holds the Coates Family Endowed Chair in Neuroscience and serves as Department Chair. His research focuses on understanding how neural circuits in the cerebral cortex mediate sensation, learning, and higher brain functions, with a particular emphasis on cortical plasticity and its role in autism spectrum disorders.

The Feldman Lab employs experimental approaches such as synaptic physiology, 2-photon calcium imaging, optogenetics, and quantitative sensory behavior studies to investigate these mechanisms in the somatosensory cortex of rodents. Their work explores the cellular and circuit basis of neural coding, homeostatic maintenance of cortical function, and altered sensory processing in autism.
The lab's research is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI). Dan Feldman’s findings contribute to both basic neuroscience and translational studies in neurological diseases.
