Dan Dragomir-Daescu

Dan Dragomir-Daescu, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He holds an administrative appointment as a Senior Associate Consultant in the Division of Biomathematics and Translation Engineering. His primary affiliation is within the Department of Physiology & Biomedical Engineering.

Dr. Dragomir-Daescu earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Timisoara, and holds additional MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering (Arizona State University) and Mathematics (West University of Timisoara), along with BS degrees in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering from West University of Timisoara and Polytechnic University of Timisoara, respectively.

His research focuses on biomedical engineering innovations including stent-graft development, magnetic nanoparticle applications, vascular hemodynamics, bone fracture modeling, and noninvasive LVAD thrombosis detection. Key projects include collaborations with cardiologists Barry A. Boilson and Gurpreet S. Sandhu to advance early LVAD thrombosis detection via acoustic analysis and magnetic endothelial cell targeting for stent-graft healing.

Notable contributions include developing finite element models for bone strength prediction using CT scans and establishing one of the world's largest cadaveric femoral fracture databases. He has secured grants such as the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's TAVR Leaflet Fatigue Modeling project (2022-2027) and the Judd Leighton Foundation Award (2021-2023).

Dr. Dragomir-Daescu's work bridges biomechanical research with clinical applications, emphasizing early disease detection and improved medical devices. His team's recent advancements include bioresorbable flow diverters and AI-driven LVAD monitoring systems.
