Dan Bedgood

Dan Bedgood is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at Charles Sturt University, affiliated with the School of Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences. He holds a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from Montana State University and a BS in Chemistry from George Mason University.

His research focuses on chemical education (quality assessment, internet-based learning, visualization), teaching practice, and analytical chemistry of phenolic compounds in food. He pioneered the POGIL active chemistry teaching method in Australia (2008-2011) and has published 12 chemical education and 20+ chemistry research papers, including innovations in antioxidant assays for lipid systems.

Recent research trends span antioxidant screening (Australian native plants, TBARS analysis, phenolic compounds), science education (Rasch analysis for exam validity), and pedagogical outreach (Indigenous engagement via NISEP). Key collaborations include work with Drs. Prenzler, Barril, and Ryan.
