Dr. Damon Hall is an Associate Professor with a joint appointment between the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs and the Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences at Northeastern University. His research focuses on the human dimensions of sustainability challenges at the intersection of science, policy, and culture. He is based at Northeastern’s Marine Science Center in Nahant, MA, and leads the Hall Lab, which explores inclusive systems modeling, stakeholder engagement in environmental policy, and the development of nature-based solutions.
Dr. Hall earned an MA in Communication from Purdue University and a PhD in Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University. His work addresses two core themes: (1) improving the representation of social-ecological systems in decision-making and (2) fostering meaningful stakeholder participation in environmental governance. Current projects include analyzing pollinator conservation policies, advancing flood resiliency in river communities, and integrating community perspectives into water resource management.
His research emphasizes transdisciplinary collaboration, bridging gaps between scientists, policymakers, and local practitioners to design solutions that resonate with societal needs. Recent studies include exploring urban greenspace equity, assessing agricultural impacts on streamflow, and evaluating the efficacy of lead ammunition bans for wildlife conservation.
Dr. Hall collaborates closely with state and federal agencies to advise community engagement initiatives and has contributed to projects such as the Yellowstone River Cultural Inventory. His lab’s work highlights the importance of place-based approaches to sustainability, combining rigorous scientific analysis with cultural and social considerations.
Key areas of focus include:
- Climate resilience and disaster management
- Inclusive decision-making frameworks
- Pollinator conservation policy
- Water resource governance
- Citizen science methodologies
His research outputs reflect a commitment to actionable science, aiming to enhance the resilience of social-ecological systems through participatory and transdisciplinary approaches.
