Damir Banović serves as a Senior Teaching Assistant at the Department of Theory of State and Law within the Faculty of Law at the University of Sarajevo. He concurrently pursues doctoral studies at the same institution with research focused on contemporary socio-legal theory as a critique of legal positivism. His international affiliations include membership in the European Commission on Sexual Orientation Law (ECSOL), participation in Humboldt University Berlin's "Verfassungspolitik in Mitel- und Osteueropas" network, enrollment in the "Human Dignity in Europe" project at Universität Luzern, and associate membership in the Serbian Association of Legal and Social Philosophy (IVR Serbia).
Academically, Banović holds an LL.M degree and has published over 20 scientific papers in domestic and international journals. His scholarly output includes five major co-edited/co-authored volumes spanning 2011-2016, addressing Bosnia and Herzegovina's political architecture, parliamentary systems, and human rights frameworks. His doctoral research examines socio-legal theory's critical potential beyond legal positivism.
Banović's research centers on legal and political philosophy with concentrated expertise in post-Dayton political systems, constitutional design for ethnically divided societies, and human rights law—particularly sexual orientation and gender identity protections. His work systematically analyzes governance challenges in post-conflict contexts through theoretical critique and empirical case studies of Bosnian institutions.
Publication analysis reveals persistent focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina's institutional framework since 2011, evolving from structural political analysis toward specialized human rights applications. His trajectory demonstrates deepening engagement with European human rights standards, culminating in 2016 work connecting legal philosophy to contemporary dignity debates. The 2012-2016 publications particularly highlight intersectional approaches to constitutional law and LGBTQ+ rights.
Research support includes Konrad Adenauer Foundation funding for his Centre for Socio-legal Studies residency. His collaborative projects engage multidisciplinary European teams through ECSOL and the "Human Dignity in Europe" initiative, reflecting commitment to transnational legal scholarship addressing complex socio-legal challenges in transitional societies.
