Dr. Damien Huffer is an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Social Science, University of Queensland. His research focuses on the illicit trade of human remains, digital anthropology, and bioarchaeology. He collaborates with global institutions on projects addressing cultural heritage preservation, social media’s role in criminal networks, and ethical challenges in osteological studies. Key affiliations include the SocioHealthLab and UQ Bioarchaeology and Osteology Network (BONE) Research Group. Recent work examines Instagram and Facebook’s impact on trafficking dynamics, legal frameworks governing human remains, and isotope analysis applications. Huffer’s publications span Oxford University Press, Springer, and Palgrave Macmillan, with a 2023 monograph on online human remains trade ethics. His interdisciplinary approach integrates anthropology, criminology, and computer science to combat cultural heritage crimes.
