Dr. Damian Redfearn is a Professor at Queen's University, affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Department of Medicine. He specializes in Cardiac Electrophysiology, directing the Heart Rhythm Service at Kingston General Hospital since 2007. His work focuses on advancing catheter ablation techniques for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachyarrhythmias, leveraging interdisciplinary collaboration with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Dr. Redfearn pioneered a $4.5M Electrophysiology Laboratory, enhancing complex ablation programs in Ontario. His research integrates computational approaches with clinical practice, supported by partnerships through networks like the Canadian Atrial Fibrillation Stroke Prevention Intervention Network. He emphasizes translating research into patient care improvements, with a focus on arrhythmia management and technological innovation in cardiac devices.
Education: MB ChB MD from the University of Leicester Medical School and subspecialty Cardiology training at Birmingham University. He moved to Canada in 2004 for advanced training.
Research Interests: Cardiac arrhythmia mechanisms, catheter ablation optimization, novel technologies for electrophysiology, and healthcare disparities in atrial fibrillation outcomes. His work bridges clinical and engineering domains to improve procedural precision and patient outcomes.
Grants and Labs: Director of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Signal Analysis Lab (CASALab), advancing signal processing and algorithmic tools for arrhythmia mapping. His industry partnerships accelerate next-generation ablation system development.
