Damian Mather

Dr Damian Mather is a Senior Lecturer at Manchester Law School, Manchester Metropolitan University, with strategic roles as the International Lead and Student Mobility Lead for the Faculty of Business and Law. He has been part of the Senior Leadership Team since 2016 and has driven global research partnerships, transnational education collaborations, and the internationalization of curricula.

His research focuses on the interplay between European Union law and human rights, particularly in areas such as free movement, citizenship, migration/asylum law, and counter-terrorism policy. He has contributed to debates on Brexit’s implications for legal frameworks and led the development of LLM programs in International Human Rights Law and International Business Law.

Recent publications highlight his expertise in higher education internationalization, post-Brexit legal challenges, and EU institutional reform. His work spans academic leadership, legal education innovation, and policy analysis.

Dr Mather supervises PhD candidates in European Union law and human rights, with four completed postgraduate research students. He actively engages in global outreach through Manchester Law School’s GoGlobal Week and serves as an external panel member for law program approvals.
