معرفی
Professor Damian Hampshire is a faculty member in the Department of Physics at Durham University. He serves as Head of the Superconductivity Research Group and Director of the European Reference Laboratory for Fusion Energy. His research focuses on superconductivity, high magnetic field materials, and fusion energy applications.
His recent publications investigate the strain, temperature, and angular dependence of critical current density in high-temperature superconductors like REBCO and Nb-Ti, with collaborations spanning France, Japan, and the USA. He has contributed to the design of superconducting magnets for fusion reactors and holds a patent for a toroidal field magnet system.
Professor Hampshire supervises multiple PhD students and leads experimental efforts using Durham’s 15 Tesla split-pair magnet system. He has held leadership roles in international committees, including Chair of the European Conference on Applied Superconductivity (EuCAS2019) and membership in the British Cryogenics Council. His work underpins the development of the $50B ITER fusion tokamak.
