Dajiang Liu serves as Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Public Health Sciences (Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics) at Penn State College of Medicine, with additional appointment as Distinguished Professor in the Department of Molecular and Precision Medicine. His academic leadership extends across multiple research centers including the Institute for Personalized Medicine, Penn State Cancer Institute, and One Health Microbiome Center.
Dr. Liu's research program focuses on:
- Statistical genetics methodology development for large-scale sequence association studies
- Computational interpretation of GWAS findings through integrative approaches
- Functional genomics research on X chromosome inactivation
- Application to complex disease traits including lipids/cardiovascular disease, smoking/drinking addiction, and lupus
His lab developed widely-used software packages RAREMETAL and RVTESTS for association analysis and meta-analysis. Current research integrates multi-omics data with electronic health records to advance precision medicine applications. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Dr. Liu's recent publications demonstrate expertise in autoimmune disease mechanisms, addiction genetics, cancer management, and biomarker discovery for infectious diseases. His work frequently employs innovative approaches combining genomic data with clinical information to address complex biological questions.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Basic Science Career Mentor Award (2021)
- Outstanding Champion of Diversity in Research (2019)
- Outstanding Early-Stage Investigator (2016)
Dr. Liu currently leads multiple NIH-funded projects including studies on COPD in females, autoimmune disease progression, and lupus etiology across diverse populations. His mentorship and research program actively contribute to advancing genomic medicine and training the next generation of statistical geneticists.
