Prof. Dr. Dagmar Schmelzer is a Senior Academic Councillor at the University of Regensburg's Institute of Romance Studies, specializing in French, Spanish, and Québec literature/culture. She leads the binational German-French DFH programs in Intercultural European Studies and German-French Studies, and serves as DFH Program Officer. Her roles include editorial board membership for Hispanic Cultural Studios and participation in the Leibniz ScienceCampus 'Europe and America in the Modern World.'
Her academic career includes habilitation (2018) on spatial designs in Chateaubriand's travelogues and a doctorate (2007) on intermediality in Spanish avant-garde novels. She previously held a professorship at the University of Passau (2019-2020). Research focuses include 19th-21st century French literature, 20th/21st-century Spanish culture, intermedial studies, and spatial narratives in autobiography/travel writing.
Publications emphasize transnational cultural exchange, identity negotiation, and spatial theory.
