Dr Dafni Lima is an Assistant Professor at Durham Law School and Durham CELLS (Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences), with affiliations to the Wolfson Research Institute and Institute for Medical Humanities. She holds LLB/LLM/PhD degrees from Aristotle University and an LLM from the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on comparative family law, human rights, assisted reproduction, and legal responses to family diversity. She teaches modules like European Human Rights Law and Law of Family Relationships.
Key achievements include co-editing a special journal issue on family law diversity, founding the European Network 'Family Law in Context – FLIC', and leading interdisciplinary projects like the ART-Equal parenthood study. Awards include the Fulbright Visiting Researcher grant and REWI Fellowship. She has held visiting roles at institutions in Brazil, Spain, Germany, and the US.
Research interests span AI ethics, criminal law, and public health intersections. She contributes to Child of the North reports on children’s welfare and advises on maternity service accessibility via the NIHR-funded SEAMS project. Awards include FHEA and Wolfson Research Institute Fellowship.
