Dr. Daan Brandenbarg is an Assistant Professor and clinical epidemiologist at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Medical Sciences, affiliated with the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). He leads the research group 'Oncology in primary care' and is a member of the Cure and Care in the Community Context (FOUR-C) and Life Course Epidemiology (LCE) research groups. His work focuses on optimizing cancer care integration between primary and secondary healthcare systems, with particular emphasis on long-term survivorship, physical activity interventions, and diagnostic protocols for cancer survivors.
Professional roles include executive committee member of the Cancer in Primary Care Research International (Ca-PRI) network, Taskforce member for Cancer Survivorship Care, and municipal council member of Groningen. His research spans oncology epidemiology, primary care coordination, and patient-centered follow-up strategies post-cancer treatment.
Key research interests include breast and colorectal cancer survivorship, cardiac health in long-term survivors, and healthcare system improvements for seamless oncological care transitions. He has contributed to over 49 publications and actively participates in national/international conferences, presenting on topics such as shared care models and physical activity programs in primary care settings.
