DERYA AYDIN ŞAHİN

Dr. DERYA AYDIN ŞAHİN is an Associate Professor at Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, specializing in Child Health and Diseases with a focus on Pediatric Cardiology. She has been in her current position since 2022, having previously served as a Research Assistant at the same institution from 2002-2007 and 2011-2014.

Her educational background includes medical specialization in Child Health and Diseases at Gaziantep University (2002-2007, 2011-2014) and a medical degree from Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine (1994-2000). She has also held positions as a Pediatric Cardiology Specialist at several hospitals including Mersin City Training and Research Hospital (2017-2020), Istanbul Süleymaniye Maternity and Women's Diseases Training and Research Hospital (2015-2017), and Gaziantep 75th Year Women's Diseases and Maternity Hospital (2007-2011).

Dr. ŞAHİN's research focuses on pediatric cardiology with special emphasis on interventional cardiology procedures in children, congenital heart diseases, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiac manifestations of systemic diseases such as celiac disease and diabetes. Her work demonstrates expertise in transcatheter closure techniques for various cardiac defects including PDA, VSD, and ASD in pediatric patients of varying weights and ages.

Her recent publications (2021-2024) show a strong trend in multi-center studies on transcatheter interventions, MIS-C cardiac complications, radiation safety in pediatric cardiac imaging, and the intersection of cardiac function with systemic conditions like celiac disease and diabetes. The research spans both clinical applications and genetic aspects of congenital heart defects.

Dr. ŞAHİN has supervised at least one thesis on cardiac effects of anthracycline therapy in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia survivors. She is an active member of both the Turkish Pediatric Association (since 2015) and the Turkish Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Association (since 2012), reflecting her commitment to advancing pediatric cardiology through research, clinical practice, and professional collaboration. Her work bridges clinical cardiology with other pediatric specialties, particularly gastroenterology and endocrinology.
