DENAUD Louis

Louis DENAUD is a Full Professor and Director of LaboMaP (Laboratoire de Mécanique et Procédés) at École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (ENSAM). His research focuses on advanced material characterization techniques for wood and engineered wood products, with a particular emphasis on non-destructive testing methods such as THz radar, X-ray imaging, and hyperspectral analysis. He has pioneered studies on the mechanical properties of wood veneers, including the effects of fiber orientation, lathe checks, and thermal modification on structural performance.

Key areas of study include the development of automated defect detection algorithms using deep learning, optimization of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) manufacturing processes, and the evaluation of wood as sustainable eco-materials for automotive and construction applications. DENAUD’s work integrates experimental mechanics, imaging technologies, and computational modeling to bridge the gap between material science and industrial applications.

He has published extensively on topics such as wood microstructure analysis, composite material behavior under stress, and the impact of forestry practices on wood properties. DENAUD’s contributions have advanced the understanding of wood’s mechanical behavior and enabled innovations in eco-friendly structural materials.
