Dr. D.T. Tempelaar is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Quantitative Economics at the School of Business and Economics, Maastricht University. With a career spanning over four decades, he has held roles including Lecturer (1984–2007) and Associate Professor (2007–present). His research focuses on modeling student learning processes using dispositional learning analytics, social cognitive theories, and self-regulated learning in technology-enhanced environments. He has contributed to national and EU-funded projects like EMERGE, SURF, and STEP, addressing developmental education and adaptive assessment innovations.
His research interests include big data approaches to learning analytics, achievement motivation, epistemic emotions, and cultural diversity in education. He actively participates in interdisciplinary research themes such as 'Culture, Ethics and Leadership' (CEL) under the MUSBE initiative. Tempelaar has received notable awards, including the Education Prize (School of Business and Economics and Maastricht University) and the Media Exposure Award.
His work emphasizes formative assessment's role in learning and the effectiveness of developmental education. Collaborations with colleagues like B. Rienties and A. Bátori have yielded publications on topics like self-regulation strategies and boredom in academic settings, highlighting his commitment to advancing educational methodologies through empirical research.
