Cynthia Weinig is a Professor and WY Excellence Chair in Botany at the University of Wyoming, Department of Botany, within the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources. Her research focuses on ecological and evolutionary genetics, particularly the interplay between genetic variation, environmental conditions, and phenotypic plasticity in plants. She holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Indiana University and B.A. degrees in Honors Biology and German from Brown University.
Her current research projects include understanding the role of the rhizosphere microbiome in plant growth, circadian clock adaptation in natural environments, and shade-avoidance responses in sugar beet. She has received funding from NSF and USDA for projects investigating microbial community dynamics, plant genetics, and ecological interactions.
Dr. Weinig’s work integrates molecular genetics with ecological and physiological approaches. Her lab (SIB 4321) explores topics such as transcriptomic responses to environmental stress, genotype-by-environment interactions, and the evolutionary consequences of circadian rhythms. She teaches courses in Genetics and Evolution of Development.
Recent publications highlight her contributions to understanding microbial influences on plant circadian clocks, the ecological impacts of microbial communities, and the genetic basis of quantitative trait variation.
