Dr Crystal Jasmine La Rue is a Research Fellow in the School of Psychology at The University of Queensland, where she is affiliated with the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences. Her research focuses on the intersection of social identity theory, retirement adjustment, and mental well-being. She is currently available for supervision and actively contributes to multidisciplinary projects on identity-based interventions in aging and sport psychology.

Research Interests:
Dr La Rue’s scholarly work is anchored in social identity theory, particularly how group memberships influence retirement adjustment, mental health, and social connectedness. Her research spans organizational psychology, sport psychology, and aging studies, with a strong emphasis on designing and evaluating evidence-based interventions that support individuals during major life transitions.
She has led and co-authored studies that apply latent profile analysis, meta-analysis, and longitudinal designs to understand how identity continuity and group participation shape outcomes in retirement and elite sports transitions.
Publications Overview:
Dr La Rue has published extensively in top-tier journals including Psychology of Sport and Exercise, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, Group Processes and Intergroup Relations, and Health Psychology Review. Her work covers themes such as identity change in elite athletes, loneliness interventions, and social identity-based retirement programs. Her 2024 publications include influential articles on social identity interventions for athletes and a framework for social prescribing to combat loneliness.
Supervision & Collaboration:
Dr La Rue is open to supervising higher degree research students. She collaborates with a wide network of researchers including Professors Catherine Haslam, S. Alexander Haslam, Niklas Steffens, and Tegan Cruwys. Her projects often involve large interdisciplinary teams across psychology, public health, and sport science.
