Crystal A Parikh is a Professor of Social & Cultural Analysis and English at New York University, and Director of the Asian/Pacific/American Institute. She holds a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of Miami, respectively. Her research focuses on comparative race and ethnic studies, postcolonial studies, feminist theory, and twentieth-century American literature.
Her work explores themes such as human rights, migration, diaspora, and the intersections of race, gender, and ethics in literature. Key publications include Writing Human Rights: The Political Imaginaries of Writers of Color (2017) and An Ethics of Betrayal: The Politics of Otherness in Emergent U.S. Literature and Culture (2009), both award-winning studies. She also edited The Cambridge Companion to Human Rights and Literature (2019).
Parikh’s research trends emphasize transnational feminist frameworks, geopolitical migration narratives, and the ethical dimensions of literature. Her articles analyze topics like self-determination, statelessness, and cultural dislocation across global contexts.
