Cristina Palet Ballus

Cristina Palet Ballus is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), specializing in separation techniques and environmental chemistry. She holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry (1994) and a Degree in Chemical Sciences (1989), both from UAB. Her research focuses on developing sustainable methods for heavy metal removal, pollutant detection in water, and innovative separation technologies like supported liquid membranes and biochar applications. She has led or collaborated in over 20 research projects, including international initiatives like NEOSETAC (selenium-based nanocapsules for breast cancer treatment) and RECOPHARMA (removing pharmaceutical pollutants from wastewater).

Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean water and sustainable development. She has supervised 62 research works and co-authored 64 publications. Key projects include investigating pathways of solute transport in coastal lagoons and acidification impacts on high-mountain water ecosystems.
