Cristina Buga is a Lecturer at the Department of Performance and Music Pedagogy within the Faculty of Music at the Transilvania University of Brașov. Her research focuses on articulation notation, piano music structures, and contemporary piano composition, with particular emphasis on Romanian composers and 20th-century musical developments. She has published extensively on works by Prokofiev, Ravel, Debussy, and Romanian composer Constantin Silvestri, analyzing stylistic innovations and pedagogical implications.
Her academic contributions include studies on Liszt's influence in modern works, avant-garde piano techniques, and the revival of nationalist musical traditions. Notable publications include analyses of Jo Sporck’s contemporary piano works (2017), Ravel’s Jeux d’eau (2011), and Prokofiev’s Visions fugitives (2007). Her research bridges historical performance practices with modern interpretative challenges, emphasizing the pedagogical value of studying composer-specific techniques.
Buga’s work highlights the interplay between technical execution and emotional expression in piano performance. She has also contributed to preserving the legacy of Romanian composers like Constantin Silvestri through detailed analyses of his Chants nostalgiques (2012) and biographical studies (2009).
