Creighton Avery is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream at the Department of Anthropology, University of Toronto Mississauga. She is a biological anthropologist specializing in biocultural approaches to understanding childhood and adolescence in the Roman Empire (1st-5th century CE), using osteological and dental remains alongside archaeological, historical, and literary sources.
- Education: PhD (2022) and MA in Biological Anthropology and Bioarchaeology from McMaster University; BA from Trent University.
- Current Courses: Fall 2024 - Human Osteology (ANT334H), Growth and Development (ANT337H); Winter 2025 - Lab Methods in Biological Anthropology (ANT338H), Advanced Bioarchaeology (ANT441H).
- Professional Roles: Also works as an osteoarchaeologist for Stantec, identifying human remains in archaeological contexts in Southwestern Ontario.
- Research Methods: Utilizes dietary stable isotopes, peptide analysis of amelogenin in tooth enamel, and growth/development studies.
