Craig Whittet

Craig Whittet is the Head of Department and Programme Leader for Product Design Engineering at The Glasgow School of Art (GSA). His work bridges teaching, research, and supervision, focusing on how technology and human factors can enhance quality of life across sectors like healthcare, transportation, and consumer products. He collaborates with institutions such as Autodesk and Tsinghua University, with a career spanning academic leadership and industry consultancy.

Research Highlights:

• Development of the ‘Airport in the City’ concept with Bauhaus Luftfahrt, aligned with Airbus Group’s Fascinations 2050 and EU Flightpath 2050 initiatives.
• Leadership in teleWEAR (Chubb Community Care collaboration) and APAtSCHE (EPSRC-funded, £751k) projects addressing ageing populations and energy-saving technologies.
• Advocacy for CAD and advanced prototyping/manufacturing, including participation in Autodesk’s Pilot Programmes and international presentations.

Academic & Industry Engagement:

• PhD supervision (BCI Headset project with University of Glasgow).
• Scientific reviewer for international conferences, external examiner at Duncan of Jordanstone and Middlesex University, and academic consultant for the Open University.
