Craig Clements is a Professor in the Department of Meteorology and Climate Science at San Jose State University's College of Science and serves as head of the Fire Weather Research Lab.
Dr. Clements specializes in fire weather research and wildfire observation using advanced meteorological instrumentation. His work leverages the non-overlapping fire and storm seasons in the western U.S. as well as regionally specific 'natural laboratories' to maximize research utility. Under his leadership, SJSU acquired a mobile Ka-band Doppler Radar in 2019 - the first deployable lab of its kind capable of conducting observational studies from Earth's surface to the tropopause across both dry and wet atmospheric conditions.
This sophisticated technology provides students with hands-on experience operating state-of-the-science equipment, developing high-level academic and professional skills while conducting advanced research relating to fire behavior and atmospheric conditions.
