Dr. Courtney Tollison serves as the Distinguished University Public Historian and Scholar at Furman University. She leads the Upcountry History Museum and Furman University Oral History Project, specializing in modern U.S. history, South Carolina, and public history. Her roles include board memberships with the SC Historical Society, Humanities Council SC, and advisory roles for preservation trusts and schools. She has curated exhibits, published books, and produced documentaries on WWII, civil rights, and regional history. Tollison holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of South Carolina and a B.A. from Furman University.
Her research focuses on public history initiatives, including oral histories, museum exhibits, and historical markers. Notable projects include 'Weaving Our Survival: Upcountry South Carolina and World War II' and the Major Rudolf Anderson Memorial. She has received awards such as the Fulbright Scholarship and Southeastern Museums Conference Award.
