Courtney Cox is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies (IRES) within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oregon. Her work lies at the intersection of sport studies, performance studies, feminist theory, Black studies, and critical data studies, with a particular focus on identity, technology, and labor as manifested through sport and wine.

Her current book project, Double Crossover: Gender, Politics, and Performance in Basketball, investigates how Black women and non-binary athletes navigate the global sports-media complex. Alongside Dr. Perry B. Johnson, she co-directs The Sound of Victory, a multi-platform digital humanities project exploring the interplay of music, sound, and sport.
Recent Publications Overview:
Across the past decade, Cox’s scholarship has interrogated the entanglements of race, gender, media, and technology in sport. Her 2022 articles examine historical memory of 1968 activism, feminist visual politics, and methodological reflexivity in digital research. Earlier work dissects policy debates around Muslim women athletes, the cultural production of celebrity in sports documentaries, and the economic narratives surrounding professional football.
