Cory Barker is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Film Production and Media Studies at the Bellisario College of Communications, Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on media industry convergences, particularly how legacy media institutions adopt new technologies in production, promotion, and distribution. He earned his Ph.D. in Communication & Culture from Indiana University and previously held a tenured faculty position at Bradley University’s Department of Communication.
He authored the book Social TV: Multi-Screen Content and Ephemeral Culture (2022), which critically examines the U.S. television industry’s attempts to integrate social media during the 2010s. This work received the Outstanding Book Award from the Media Industries Studies Interest Group in 2023. Barker also hosts the News Over Noise Podcast, exploring media and technology’s societal impacts.
His academic contributions span media studies, digital journalism, and streaming technologies. He maintains an active presence through his podcast and the TV Plus website, furthering discussions on evolving media landscapes.
