Corrado Viola is a Full Professor of Italian Literature at the University of Verona's Department of Culture and Civilizations. Born in Biella in 1964, he directs the Literature Department and chairs the Centro di Ricerca sugli Epistolari del Settecento (C.R.E.S.).
His research spans the seventeenth to twentieth Centuries with primary focus on the eighteenth Century. Key areas include:
- Epistolography and literary historiography of the eighteenth Century
- Italian literature lexicography
- Literature and mountain landscapes
- Neoclassical and protoromantic literature
- History of Italian literature from Origins to 21st Century
Viola has published extensively on authors including Muratori, Maffei, Parini, Alfieri, and others. His work examines the Republic of letters in the 17th-18th Century between national and European dimensions.
He serves on multiple academic committees including the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Historical Studies on the eighteenth Century (SISSD) and the Commission for the National Edition of the Works of Giuseppe Parini.
As an educator, Viola teaches Italian literature across multiple degree programs including the Bachelor's degree in Humanities and Master's degree in Tradition and Interpretation of Literary Texts, focusing on Genres and history of Italian literature, Didactics of literatures, and Italian language.
