Cornelis Haasnoot

Cornelis Haasnoot is a Doctoral Researcher at the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies, part of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA). His research focuses on fiscal federalism and subnational border reforms in India, with particular attention to government productivity and socioeconomic disparities. He holds an MSc in International Economics from Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen (Netherlands), where his thesis explored 'Heterogeneous Firms and Geography – Unmasking a Neglected Externality.'

His academic contributions include a 2019 chapter analyzing the social and economic challenges faced by Scheduled Tribes in India and a 2016 working paper examining the relationship between government size and productivity in Indian states. His work bridges macroeconomic theory with empirical regional development studies.

Haasnoot has held roles as a Research Assistant at the GIGA since 2011 and has teaching experience in international economics at Radboud University. He participated in the Erasmus Program at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal.
