Cornelia Hummel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and a member of the Institute for Sociological Research (IRS) at the University of Geneva. She also serves as an Associate Researcher at the Interfaculty Centre for Gerontology and Vulnerability Studies (CIGEV) and is affiliated with the Urban Hub and Visual Laboratory of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Her research focuses on the sociology of aging, urban aging, visual methodologies, and material culture. Recent work explores aging in urban spaces through visual and sound methods, including studies on elderly confinement during the pandemic, prison aging, and socio-technical objects in domestic environments. Current projects include the SNSF-funded Aging Humans, Changing Homes initiative, examining how technology reconfigures elderly living spaces.
