Cornelia Horn is a Professor of Languages and Cultures of the Christian Orient and Byzantine Studies at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, where she has served as Chair and Director of the Seminar for Christian Oriental and Byzantine Studies since 2016. Her academic career spans institutions in the U.S. and Germany, including roles as Assistant Professor at Saint Louis University and the University of St. Thomas, and as a Heisenberg Fellow at Freie Universität Berlin.
- Education: Dr. phil. habil. (Tübingen, 2011), Ph.D. in Early Christian Studies (CUA, 2001), M.A. in Early Christian Studies (CUA, 1997), and B.A. in Classics, Theology, and Art History (Würzburg, 1991).
Horn specializes in early Christian texts, Syriac literature, and Byzantine history, with a focus on asceticism, childhood in antiquity, and biblical-sacred text interactions. Her editorial roles include co-founding conference units on Syriac and Quranic studies.
- Scientific Awards: Heisenberg Fellowship, Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow, NEH Fellowship, DO Fellowships, ACLS Fellowships, and Society of Biblical Literature Regional Scholar.
She has supervised 4 PhD students at Martin Luther University and Oslo University (2014–present), evaluated PhD theses internationally, and organized major academic conferences. Her work intersects with interdisciplinary collaborations, including "Childhood in Early Europe" with Reidar Aasgaard.
